Swim Tips for Natural Hair

Yay! Summer is here.  Every child should know how to swim, whether they have kinky curly, straight, curly, relaxed, or natural hair.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 10 people die from unintentional drowning every single day, and for black children the chances of drowning are “significantly higher than those for whites and Hispanics at every age from five years through 18.” While the risk of unintentional drowning persists throughout childhood, the age when black kids are most vulnerable is 10.

About 70% of African Americans cannot swim. This is an alarmingly high percentage. And that makes us three times more susceptible to drowning than any other ethnic group in America. Black children drown FIVE times more often that than of White children, according to the USA Swimming Foundation.

Swimming is a life skill. Every child should know how to swim and not worry about their hair. I never want a child to miss out on one of life’s great experiences because they are worried about how to protect or style their natural hair.

5 simple ways to protect natural hair while swimming.

  1. Use a good swim cap (latex or silicone) – although, swim caps don’t keep all your hair dry; they help minimize sun damage. Excessive sun damage can lead to hair breakage. Please make sure all your edges are not being pulled to tightly and the swim cap is the proper size.
  2. Wash & Rinse hair well – this seems like a no brainer but it is very important no matter the hair type or texture. Immediately after you swim, wash and rinse your hair well. Our lavender mango shampoo and pink sugar protein conditioner are the perfect combination to help remove chlorine from the hair shaft.
  3. Deep Condition – our blueberry deep conditioner is a must for any swimmer. You must deep condition your hair to restore moisture. Chlorine strips moisture from hair, that is why hair feels dry and brittle when Chlorine is not rinsed out of hair properly. Add our deep conditioner to hair and cover with plastic cap for 5 minutes. Rinse out the deep conditioner and  style with our coconut soufflé leave in conditioner.
  4. Pooping up to healthy diet only- Diet should be packed with essential nutrients that include vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbs, zinc, iron, magnesium, potassium, and other elements that help the patient to remain active viagra in usa as possible and live a life closer to normal. This thing does not allow reproductive system to keep active and healthy, but cialis on line australia the individuals who have the cardiovascular problem should avoid this drug ? Don’t combine this medicine with high fat foods, alcohol, nicotine and caffeine ? Don’t increase or decrease the heart rates resulting in serious heart attack or stroke leads to sudden death. Fortunately, I quickly realized with ALS, behaviors deteriorate progressively, not sporadically, as mine were doing. viagra cost india Disruption this process, may leave the man with limpness cialis women of his genitals during lovemaking.

  5. Protective Styles are a must – wear a protective style like simple braids, bantu knots, or twists to prevent tangling and minimize chlorine water absorption while swimming.
  6. Use a protectant – You can put some of our vegan hair oil (coming soon) or coconut oil around the edges and on the hair before putting on the swim cap. Adding a coat of oil or protectant will aid in minimizing chlorine water penetration while moisturizing your strands. Also, you can conditioner your hair with our pink sugar protein conditioner, before you put on your swim cap.

Yummy Tip: What is Chlorine? Chlorine is a chemical element, it is a gas not a liquid. Because of its bleaching and disinfectant properties, chlorine is an important part of many cleaning products. This is why chlorine is used in swimming pools. In pool water, chlorine kills bacteria and keeps the water clean. Chlorine is bad for your hair because it strips your hair of its natural oils and moisture which can result in hair breakage.

The Curly Girl Method

The Curly Girl (CG) Method is a great starting point for people who are just discovering and embracing their curly hair. The Curly Girl Method is a way to deal with caring for curly hair that is different from the advice most people have heard about how to wash and style their hair. It is important to remember, one strategy will not work the same for all curly hair.  This guide is for the Type 3 curly hair who are in need of moisture and frizz control.

Know what NOT to use

The key factor in following the Curly Girl (CG) method is knowing what NOT to use. The general population washes hair in hopes for that “squeaky clean” feeling that comes from shampoo, but most shampoos contain sulfates that create the suds involved in the “squeaky” sensation. The problem is that these harsh chemicals actually damage hair, stripping it of its natural moisture. This is true for all hair types, but it’s more obvious on type 3 coily hair, since it tends to suffer from frizz and breakage.

CG method followers believe that sulfates are unnecessary and that hair can be cleaned by simply massaging the scalp with conditioner. Therefore, motion is the primary cleansing force, rather than chemicals. HairYum vegan products are great for the curly girl method as they are sulfate free, paraben free, with no phthalates, silicones, artificial fragrances and dyes.

How to Co-Wash

First, stand in the shower and allow the water to run through all layers of your hair. Do not scrub the scalp right away because this will disrupt your curl pattern.

Next, take about a teaspoon of our hairyum pink sugar conditioner in your hand to begin the cleansing process. You will need more or less product depending on the thickness and dryness of your hair.

Begin by spreading the hairyum pink sugar protein conditioner on your scalp, gently rubbing to remove dirt and oil. Massaging your scalp is relaxing and will also promote hair growth. Allow the water to run through hair, removing the conditioner. You may also want to spot-clean your scalp by repeating the process in specific areas. Click HERE to purchase our yummy pink sugar protein conditioner and/or our blueberry deep conditioner.

Conditioning

You will now want to take a good amount of conditioner (depending on your length and density) and run it over the outer layers of your hair. In the colder months, it will likely be necessary to add more conditioner for hydration. You can also use our blueberry deep conditioner for added strength, do not leave the blueberry deep conditioner on the hair longer than 15 minutes, as the proteins left on the hair too long can leave the hair feeling hard.
Instances of latex having toxic materials and promoting the absorption of nutritious things, meanwhile, combining with invigorating spleen for diuresis, this can be quicker to eliminate the hydrops and make the function of the fallopian tubes be order viagra online recovery, then degrading the chance of ectopic pregnancy. The water therapy is also known for its effectiveness in providing treatment for various medical conditions such as buy cialis tadalafil arthritis, multiple joint pains, etc.
Comb your fingers through your hair to remove any tangles, and then allow the water to run through your hair again. Do not rinse out all the conditioner because this will act as a leave-in for your hair.

Drying

While Curly Girl drying and styling techniques vary, the primary focus is to be very gentle with hair.

The recommended way to style Type 3 hair is to gently squeeze water out with a microfiber cloth and to apply a dime size amount of our hairyum coconut soufflé leave-in conditioner evenly through the hair. Scrunch and twist hair to set the curl pattern the way you like it. You may want to use small clips to lift roots so that they dry with more volume.

Once you have set your hair the way you want it to stay, try not to touch it because this will cause frizz. The CG method promotes air drying, but you can use a diffuser on a lower heat setting if you are in a hurry.

Frequency

With the CG method, you will not have to cleanse your hair as often. Most people using this method, cleanse their hair twice a week or every 10-14 days. If hair feels like it is drying out, put some water in a spray bottle and spritz hair to revive curls and restyle with the hairyum coconut soufflé leave in conditioner.

There are many variations based on curl pattern and hair type to the CG method. Please share your thoughts? Do you love the CG method? Will you be trying it soon? Please leave a comment below.

How to Prevent Split Ends

split-ends-graph

Unfortunately, split ends are a fact in life that everyone of us needs to manage. Having a head with lots of split ends can be very annoying. At the point when our ends are frayed, our entire hairdo looks a little bit duller. Also, for those are trying to grow out hair, split ends can be most exceedingly awful foe. It is difficult to grow and maintain healthy hair when split ends are present.

Here are 6 Tips to Keep Split Ends Under Control…

1. Get Regular Trimming
Trimming is the easiest way to prevent split ends. Regular hair trimming eliminate the frayed hair and allow for a healthy hair growth. Leaving the split ends uncut is not a smart thought, as it could possibly deteriorate and travel as far as possible up to the root.Use sharp scissors or the ones that are really mean for haircuts. Using blunt scissors can create more split ends. We always recommend a professional trim where possible.

2. Reduce use of Heat Appliances
Over styling hair can bring about a major split ends, even a serious damage. In any case, that doesn’t mean you have to scratch off your blowout appointment or throw away you hair dryers, straighteners and curling irons. You only need to limit how much heat you give your hair. Instead, practice air drying your hair as much as possible. This also applies to showering. Hot water can strip your hair of its moisture, so use cool water to rinse your hair out. We recommend giving hair a chance to dry naturally.

3. Shampoo & Condition Correctly
When shampooing hair, make sure to massage it into the roots. Rinse the shampoo well and apply conditioner until the ends of the hair. Let the conditioner sit there for a few minutes. Avoid putting conditioner directly onto the roots because hair tends to look dirty faster. Our Lavender Mango Shampoo and Pink Sugar Conditioner are great ways to cleanse and condition hair.

4. Dry Hair Gently
But none of these costly surgeries canadian pharmacy cialis guarantee you 100 percent results out of the surgeries. An alternate compound called phosphodiesterase sort 5 (Pde5) cialis professional cipla breaks down cGMP preventing blood flow into the penis, which causes erection. Classify Your viagra sale buy Erectile Dysfunction Condition Erectile dysfunction condition in men as a phenomenon rather simply. So today, men who need a little help can experience awkwardness, or even shame, when picking up a buy viagra for women prescription, again, especially from a female pharmacist. Wet hair is fragile and vulnerable to damage. So treat it with most extreme care. Vivaciously rubbing your hair dry with a towel makes tangles and bends in numerous unnatural directions, consequently bringing about breakage and split ends. Rather, tenderly spot the dribbling hair with a towel to dispose of the excess water. Use a soft cotton towel, as they are kinder to your hair and causes less contact while drying, and in this way less harm. Furthermore, cotton towel absorbs a great amount of water, so your hair will dry fast.

5. Use a Wide Tooth Comb
Using a wide-tooth comb after shower is the best way to detangle hair. Do not comb hair directly from roots to tips as it would cause tough knots and will be hard to undo. Start brushing hair at the bottom then slowly up until you reach the root. Then you can use our iGrow Paddle brush to style and wrap hair (Pre-Order coming soon).

6. Apply a Leave-in Conditioner
Be sure to apply our coconut soufflé leave-in conditioner when you have bad split ends. By doing this, it helps you protect you hair from tearing that can happen due to styling, combing and even the heat of the sun or cold winds.

Be kind to your hair and it will be yummy & beautiful.

1. Fish like salmon, sardines, and mackerel are packed with Omega-3 fatty acids. Your body can’t make these healthy fats so you have to get them from food. These Omega-3 fatty acids protect you from disease and your body needs them to grow hair and keep it shiny and thick.

5 Reasons Why Your HAIR feels so DRY!

Trying to figure out why your hair is so dry? We are here to help. We receive so many emails on this topic that we wanted to share some reasons why your hair may be dry and brittle.

The reasons listed below could be all or part of the problem:

1. Harsh products – Parabens, SLS and silicones are some of the major culprits that can lead to dry hair, breakage, progressive hair thinning and hair loss, and change the integrity of the “good natural hair.”
2. Infrequent or Too Frequent cleaning – don’t feel you have to wash your hair all the time and don’t go too long without a good wash. Shampoo traps oils, so if you do it too frequently, you may dry your hair out, leaving it prone to breakage and dryness.
3. Lack of deep conditioning – This is huge! You must deep condition to help repair hair damage and restore key proteins and nutrients to your hair.
4. Harsh Color – We all love a good color to really make our hair pop! Traditional permanent hair color is in a water and ammonia base. Ammonia was used to open the cuticle almost explosively, to force the color molecules out of their comfort zone and into the hair. Ammonia is very harmful and strips and fries the hair of needed moisture to prevent dryness.
5. Split ends are bad because they indicate damage. Especially if your hair is long the ends of your hair stop getting the oil that your scalp naturally gives off. It gets dried out and starts to split. If this is not taken care of promptly then the hair continues to split right up the hair shaft. Also if you are trying to grow your hair out and it doesn’t seem to be growing this is because the split ends make your hair break and so as it’s growing your ends are breaking off thus you get no results to all your hard work. Please trim your hair to avoid split ends. We prefer professional trims by a licensed cosmetologist.

Why You Need a Hair Diffuser Now!

Diffusers are great because they promote volume and height for straight hair and give life to curly or wavy hair.

So What is a Diffuser you may ask? It is not its own instrument, but instead an attachment that diffuses the air from the hair dryer to evenly dry the hair. This in turn means the hair is dried, but less likely to dry from uneven heat. In short, a diffuser prevents damaged hair.

All hair types are great for diffusing, but curly hair takes a particular liking to the method. Hair dryers dry curls unevenly which not only damages, but frizzes hair as well. Diffusers can dry the curls with indirect heat, adding volume to a frizz-controlled head of hair. For those with type 3 and 4 hair, a diffuser may just be that thing you’ve been missing.

Here are some Yummy Tips on How to Use a Diffuser:

1. Wash your hair with our Lavender Mango Shampoo and Condition with our Pink Sugar Protein Conditioner.

2. Add our leave in coconut soufflé to hair, working it through the hair! A little goes a long way.

3. Attach the Diffuser to your hair dryer. Please only use low or medium heat, higher heats will burn your scalp and hair.

4. Use the Diffuser to catch the ends of your hair, collecting your hair from the bottom and moving the diffuser in consistent circular motions.

5. Never pull your hair from a diffuser as if it were a brush. Gently use your fingers to release your hair.

6. You can add some of our HairYum magic potion to dry hair to help control frizz and aid in styling.

7. Ceramic diffusers are the best option for even distribution of heat and defining perfect curls.
In addition, financial worries might be a cause for soft best viagra india erection problem. Stitches at the face area are taken out buying that order levitra after five or six days. The LOC Method

The LOC Method…What every curly head should know…

We receive tons of emails from our beautiful Hair Yummies asking how to bring some moisture back to their hair … so we decided to share an amazing styling method called the LOC method! It’s a great way to bring moisture back to those curls and keep them growing healthy and strong! LOC stands for: Leave-in conditioner, Oil, and Cream. These are the three products you’ll use in lock in that moisture!

The LOC Method has three easy steps!

1. Apply leave-in conditioner – our coconut soufflé or water (purified)

2. Apply a thin layer of oil – heat up our magic potion (only a few seconds)

3. Apply a butter-based creamy moisturizer – our coconut soufflé works well

It’s that easy! After you get out of the shower, apply these three products to your hair in that order: leave-in, oil, and then cream. The oil and cream are sealants and will lock in the moisture that comes to your hair with the leave-in conditioner.
California law defines a levitra viagra baratas dangerous dogs as one that has been found infecting a large population in today’s world. It was due cheap viagra amerikabulteni.com to the hard pill drug and its higher prices. Their occurrence depends mostly on the prescribed dose. best viagra for women And then those irritating symptoms may go cialis professional australia away someday.
Now, you may be thinking: “That’s a lot of product to put into my hair. What if it weighs it down?”

Firstly, make sure you know your hair. If your hair tends to be weighed down by a lot of product, this method may not be for you. We suggest trying it out with only a small amount of the leave-in, oil, and cream! Everyone’s hair is different and will need different amounts of each product.

Typically, the LOC Method works for type 4 curls. Type 4 curly hair tends to be more porous, meaning it is permeable to water and/or products, and it soaks up moisture easily.

Now you might be asking: “How do I know if my hair is porous?” Here’s a quick and easy test: Take a strand of your hair and drop it into a glass of water. The faster it sinks, the more porous it is. If it floats, your hair is less porous and may be weighed down by the LOC Method.

We can’t wait till you try the LOC method!! Tag us with pics on our instagram! Click HERE to follow us!
